The Cross of Crucifixion at Calvary is central to the Christian message – as is the resurrection.
To identify the ‘status’ of clergy, a cross (+) is used:
– If the + is AFTER the Christian name (as in Clive+) it denotes that I am a Deacon or Vicar.
– If the + is BEFORE the Christian name (as in +Clive) it denotes that I am a Bishop.
– If there are two ++ BEFORE the Christian name (as in ++Clive) it denotes that I am an Archbishop.
Some clergy use +++ before their name, but it is not universally recognised.
